Benefits of dental implants
Dental implants (consisting of the dental implant screw, the abutment and the dental crown) take the place of your missing teeth. The implant essentially becomes your new tooth’s root, securely placed in your jawbone for a long-lasting, comfortable fit.
Our patients love how their dental implants look and feel. Above all, they are so happy with the many benefits of their new dental implants…
- Natural looking smile: Dental implants are crafted to closely resemble your natural teeth, restoring a natural-looking smile.
- Improved oral health: Since there is no need to alter surrounding teeth to anchor implants, more of your natural teeth are preserved intact, improving long-term oral health.
- Improved speech: With removable, non-anchored dentures, teeth can slip within the mouth, causing slurred or mumbled speech. Dental implants remove that concern.
- Improved comfort: Dental implants avoid the slipping and discomfort of removable dentures.
- Improved function: Dental implants function like your natural teeth, allowing you to eat without pain.
- Durability: With proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime.
- Protect healthy bone structure: Empty spaces caused by tooth loss can, over time, lead to deterioration of the jawbone. Since dental implants function like tooth roots, they can prevent this type of deterioration, just as natural teeth do.
- Long-term solution: Dentures must be replaced about every 5-7 years. Dental implants, when cared for properly, can last a lifetime.
- Look younger: A healthy, confident smile will make you appear younger.

Who can get dental implants?
Many patients are candidates for dental implants. If you suffer from any of the problems listed above, you may very well be a candidate.
Actually, even if you suffer from the following conditions, you still may be eligible for implants:
- If you suffer from periodontal disease or gum disease
- If you have significant bone loss
- If you smoke cigarettes
- If you have existing medical conditions, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or a few other chronic illnesses
Dr. Silverman, or Dr. Morton will discuss your dental implants options at your consultation appointment.
The implants procedure
The procedure is fairly extensive, but well worth the time it takes to replace your missing teeth. Our dental implants dentists, Dr. Brett Silverman, and Dr. Darrell Morton routinely perform this procedure for both existing patients and new patients who are looking for the right dentist.
Here’s a brief overview of the dental implants process:
- Biocompatible titanium screws will act as the new root of your tooth after they are surgically placed into the jawbone.
- Some time will need to lapse during a process called osseointegration. This is the time period when the bone fuses with the titanium screws, permitting a tight, long-lasting bond for a solid foundation.
- After approximately 12-16 weeks, Dr. Silverman, Dr. Morton will request that you come in to the office for your next appointment. We will take an impression of your teeth to make sure your treatment plan is running smoothly. During this appointment, we will customize the abutment and create the dental crown (which will be placed on top of the implant).
- At a subsequent appointment, we will place your permanent crown, ensuring a comfortable, secure fit.
If you suffer from dental anxiety or fears of the dentist, don’t worry! Sedation dentistry can help you minimize the anxiety so you can receive the dental care you need and deserve.
Sedation dentistry (such as laughing gas, needle-free anesthesia or IV sedation) could be an option for your appointment(s). Prior to your dental implants appointment, let us know you’re interested in sedation and we’ll discuss your options with you.
The bone graft procedure
Years ago, if a patient had an insufficient amount of bone in order to place dental implants, he or she was not able to get implants. However, with the advancements in restorative dentistry, Dr. Silverman, or Dr. Morton can perform the bone graft procedure.
This will create enough bone in the area of the new implant so that the implant and the bone can fuse securely together. If you have a missing tooth or several missing teeth, dental implants may be right for you.
After a thorough examination of your teeth and gums, along with your medical history, our implant dentists, Dr. Silverman, or Dr. Morton will determine whether or not dental implants will benefit you.
