What kinds of braces are available?
For kids, traditional metal braces are the best option. These are created out of stainless steel and are cemented to the fronts of the teeth. They can only be removed by an orthodontist.
Teenagers can use metal braces, but they also have the option of using the Invisalign® clear braces system. Invisalign consists of a series of clear, plastic aligners that can be removed for meals or when brushing. There is a special version of the system called Invisalign Teen, which includes a special wear indicator to ensure the aligners are being worn often enough. Adults can choose between metal braces and Invisalign. Many choose Invisalign because the aligners are unnoticeable and conveniently removable. Others choose metal braces, often because they are typically the less expensive option.
